Social Enterprise

A Social Enterprise is a business which makes a profit, but the purpose of profit is for a social cause. Any legal business model can be a social enterprise. The defining factor is what happens with what’s left over after what is needed to run the business is used for the business. Rather than working to maximize profit for shareholders, Social Enterprises work to make profit for communities, or particular people or a combination of both. Social Enterprises are businesses which make money for social good.

We’re a Social Enterprise at GKG. We have shares, but pay no dividends. And, should we wind up or sell out, all the profit will go to other companies or organisations who do what we do. Our social cause is championing social inclusion. Organisations need to be strong to have their voices and passions heard in all the right places. Robust research about social issues can help alter public policy.
